Signs of depression
If any individual shows the following signs for two weeks or more, it suggests that they may be depressed:
Loss of interest in usual activities
Signs of sadness, hopelessness or irritability
Changes in appetite and/or weight
Changes in sleep patterns: sleeping longer, or shorter, broken sleep
Changes in behaviour; becoming withdrawn, agitated or angry
Loss of energy or overactivity
Making negative comments about self
Difficulty concentrating
Recurrent suicidal thoughts
Individuals who contemplate suicide often feel powerless to change or influence their life, or to resolve their problems. They often withdraw from other people, feel negative about themselves and are overwhelmed by feelings of anger, blame or guilt.
