Signs of depression

If any individual shows the following signs for two weeks or more, it suggests that they may be depressed:

arrow right Loss of interest in usual activities
arrow right Signs of sadness, hopelessness or irritability
arrow right Changes in appetite and/or weight
arrow right Changes in sleep patterns: sleeping longer, or shorter, broken sleep
arrow right Changes in behaviour; becoming withdrawn, agitated or angry
arrow right Loss of energy or overactivity
arrow right Making negative comments about self
arrow right Difficulty concentrating
arrow right Recurrent suicidal thoughts

Individuals who contemplate suicide often feel powerless to change or influence their life, or to resolve their problems. They often withdraw from other people, feel negative about themselves and are overwhelmed by feelings of anger, blame or guilt.
