Responding to stress

Develop stress management techniques so that you can respond effectively when you are beginning to feel stressed.

Check release methods to lower stress levels:

arrow right Take a few deep breaths
arrow right Shrug your shoulders and release any tension in them
arrow right Make a big sigh
arrow right Relax your face: stop frowning - unclench your teeth and jaw
arrow right Smile
arrow right Give yourself a compliment
arrow right Tell yourself a favourite joke
arrow right Think of your favourite place
arrow right Imagine a nice peaceful place
arrow right Count backwards, from ten to one, imagining that as the number gets lower, so does your level of tension
arrow right Stop what you are doing. Count to ten. Then go back to what you are doing
arrow right Try some positive self-talk: 'just relax', 'take some time', 'breathe', 'you can work this out'
arrow right Exercise - walking is wonderful aerobics
arrow right Take time out
arrow right Talk slowly, listen
arrow right Laugh - it's internal aerobics
