Responding to stress
Develop stress management techniques so that you can respond effectively when you are beginning to feel stressed.
Check release methods to lower stress levels:
Take a few deep breaths
Shrug your shoulders and release any tension in them
Make a big sigh
Relax your face: stop frowning - unclench your teeth and jaw
Smile
Give yourself a compliment
Tell yourself a favourite joke
Think of your favourite place
Imagine a nice peaceful place
Count backwards, from ten to one, imagining that as the number gets lower, so does your level of tension
Stop what you are doing. Count to ten. Then go back to what you are doing
Try some positive self-talk: 'just relax', 'take some time', 'breathe', 'you can work this out'
Exercise - walking is wonderful aerobics
Take time out
Talk slowly, listen
Laugh - it's internal aerobics
Breath out slowly and fully
Stretch like a cat
Release tension frequently during the day
Ask for help
