ASCA
Many survivors feel that they have few people they can talk to or get support from regarding their recovery. However it is important not to try to recover in a vacuum. Even though you might have been very alone as a child, as an adult you can find support and help from like-minded and empathetic survivors as well as trained professionals.
Learning to trust others and to turn to them for support is a crucial step in recovery. Doing so challenges one of the basic notions of abuse: namely, that people are dangerous.
ASCA has a network that provides support and understanding to survivors throughout Australia. Currently we have more than fifty support groups operating, as well as an on-line group, with phone support groups in the pipeline.
Our groups allow our members to connect with other survivors, to form relationships/friendships with those who understand – with those who will listen empathically without judgement and will validate the way you are feeling.
Our nurturing connection is invaluable in a world that often does not take the time to try to understand. Our programs have been specifically designed to help survivors address their particular needs. Please see the section ‘About us’ for a comprehensive review of how ASCA can help and support you.
