Expressive arts
Practising any form of expressive art can help unlock rigidly held memories in ways that normal conversations and thinking may not. These include:
visual arts: drawing, painting, sculpture, collages
Movement/dance
Music
Language arts: storytelling, essays, poetry
Drama
Play/sand therapy
Art therapy can be especially useful for dealing with memories which are non-verbal or for a person who finds it difficult to talk about his/her abuse. Several ASCA groups run regular art workshops.
