Managing anger
Sometimes survivors have difficulty managing their anger and expressing it appropriately. Survivors often experience a lot of anger, whether they acknowledge it or not, and need to address that anger as part of their journey of recovery.
Dealing with anger
Identify the warning signs. These include clenched fists, sweaty hands, gritted teeth, a racing heart, and tightness in your muscles.
Learn how to use anger energy appropriately, eg. by walking away from a potentially explosive situation, going for a jog, screaming across the ocean, journaling with the non-dominant hand etc.
Learn to communicate your intentions, e.g. 'I can’t deal with this at the moment; I’m too angry. We’ll talk about it later.' Then release your anger elsewhere. Once the anger is released it is possible to speak more calmly and deal with the conflict, using conflict resolution methods.
