Who We Are

ASCA is an Australian national non-government organisation dedicated to the health and wellbeing of adult survivors of all forms of child abuse and neglect. By conservative estimates there are more than 2 million adults surviving child abuse in Australia. More than 8 million Australian community members are directly affected by this tragedy. Despite this the impact of child abuse and the needs of adult survivors receive little community or government support.

Since 1995, ASCA has provided help and support for adults who have experienced childhood trauma and are struggling with its effects in the present, as well as for those who support them. Through its Australia-wide network of survivors, their friends and families as well as the health care professionals who support them, ASCA has been helping to break down the sense of isolation and alienation that many survivors feel.

In recent years ASCA has been creating new possibilities. With its regular newsletter, 1300 phone support line, advocacy work and extensive workshop program ASCA is making a real difference to the lives of Australian adults surviving child abuse.

In 2009 ASCA launched its inaugural Forget-me-knot Day. The second Friday every year will be Forget-me-knot Day, a  day for all Australians to unite in support of adults surviving child abuse, with events being held right through the month of November.  Yet for us every day is Forget-me-knot Day and our Forget-me-knot Appeal is active all year run as we work together to untangle the knot of child abuse.
