ASCA is a national organisation which works to improve the lives of Australian adult survivors of child abuse. It campaigns on behalf of those affected by childhood abuse, lobbying governments and policy makers as well as educating and informing communities and health care professionals about the needs of those affected by childhood trauma.
Our 2009 National Advertising Campaign, the largest Australian campaign ever to address the topic of adults surviving child abuse can be viewed by clicking here. It was followed in June by a human rights campaign, highlighting the human rights abuses of child abuse as well as the ongoing human rights abuses suffered by adult survivors of child abuse. In November 2009 we held our inaugural Forget-me-knot Day, an Australian national day in support of the more than 2 million Australian adults surviving child abuse. To read more click here.
ASCA's long-term strategy is to ensure that all Australian adult survivors of all forms of child abuse and neglect will be able to access the specific services they need to ensure health, well-being and meaningful engagement in their communities .
In recent years ASCA has developed and delivered an extensive workshop program nationally. Its Creating New Possibilities Workshops for survivors make a real difference to the lives of those who attend. We are currently seeking ongoing funding so these crucial programs can reach more survivors in need. We are also delivering education and training workshops for health care professionals and community workers nationally to high acclaim.
ASCA's 1300 line is resourced Monday to Friday 9-5 by experienced trauma therapists, a service to adult survivors, their friends and family and the health care professionals who support them. ASCA also has an ever-expanding referral database of health care professionals and agencies who have registered to offer services for trauma survivors.
ASCA's monthly newsletter, Breaking Free for survivors, friends and supporters and its quarterly e-health for health care professionals are a real source of comfort, information and support.
ASCA's Forget-me-knot Day will be held on November 12th 2010, an annual day asking all Australians to unite in support of Australian adults surviving child abuse. Events will be held nationally throughout november. Howeve for ASCA every day is Forget-me-knot Day and our Appeal is open all year round as we work togther to untangle the knot of child abuse.
