St Mary’s Anglican Church Morwell

By Joy Campbell, ASCA

At our Anglican parish of St. Mary in Morwell, Victoria, we observed the first Forget- me – knot Day as part of our regular morning service.

A large blue ribbon was tied around the lectern at the front of the church. It stood in front of the huge blue mural that covers the wall of our church. The mural is an amazing feature of this church. It is an Arthur Boyd original, depicting the Resurrection. The blue ASCA ribbon was exactly the colour of the mural and seemed linked closely in a symbolic way.

Our rector, Archdeacon Heather Marten talked during the sermon about the meaning of Forget-Me- Knot Day and Child Protection Week. She also spoke of the on-going difficulties of adult survivors in their day to day lives and the sense of isolation they experience.

Later, some of the prayers that had been written for ASCA were incorporated in the day’s intercessions. It was a very meaningful time for several of the parishioners who largely remain anonymous and unrecognized in their parish.
