Blue Knot Day 2016 Photography Competition

As part of Blue Knot Day celebrations, Blue Knot Foundation is hosting a photo competition to highlight this year's theme of 'together we lead the way to survivor recovery'. We are looking for images that follow this theme and feature a blue knot. Up to 20 finalist entries will be selected for exhibition, with cash prizes available for 3 winners. You can download the competition flyer here. Details of the competition are as follows:
Blue Knot Day Photo Competition
  • First prize $1,000 cash, second prize $500, third prize $250
  • Entry is free and the competition is open to everyone 16 or over, so spread the word to your budding photographer friends today!
  • All entries must feature a blue knot and follow the theme of together we lead the way to survivor recovery
  • Up to 20 finalist entries will be selected for exhibition on Blue Knot Day
  • The winners of the competition will be announced at the exhibition
  • All submissions are to be made online via the form below
  • Each individual entrant can submit up to 3 high-resolution photographic images
  • Entries close at midnight on Sunday 9 October 2016
  • Finalists will be notified by phone or email by Friday 14 October 2016
  • The competition will be judged externally and winner announced on Blue Knot Day 
  • The competition is limited to still photography. Substantial digital manipulation is not permitted, but slight enhancement is.

Terms and Conditions of Entry

  1. The Competition will be judged by an external judge as appointed by Blue Knot Foundation (the “Judge”).  The decision of the Judge is final, and no negotiation will be entered into with respect to any decision. 
  2. Each entry (“Entry”) is required to display a “tangled knot” or such other equivalent artistic device as accepted in the absolute discretion of the Judge.  Entries not meeting this requirement will not be considered for the purposes of the Competition. 
  3. Blue Knot Foundation reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and remove any Entry that does not comply with the following requirements, even after the Entry is submitted.
  4. First prize will be a cash prize to the value of $1000; second prize of $500; third prize of $250.
  5. Up to 20 Entries will be selected by the Judge, whose works will be exhibited at a venue TBC on Blue Knot Day.
  6. The Competition is limited to still photography. Substantial digital manipulation (alteration of a significant element of the image) is not permitted, but slight enhancement is permitted.
  7. Each Entry will be supplied in such format as to allow for an A2-sized print should the image be chosen for exhibition, in which case Blue Knot Foundation will be responsible for printing the image and reserve the right to this printed image.
  8. Each individual entrant can submit up to three (3) images. 
  9. There is no entry fee for the competition.
  10. The Competition is open to everyone aged 16 years or over, excluding directors and employees of Blue Knot Foundation.
  11. You warrant and represent, in respect of each Entry submitted by you, as follows:
    • You are the sole owner and author of each Entry.
    • You have the right to make your Entry available to the Competition.
    • Each Entry does not contain personally identifiable information about you or any other person(s).
    • Each Entry does not contain any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libelous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content.
    • Each Entry does not contain any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.
    • Each Entry does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity, and your Entry does not include:
      • trademarks owned by third parties
      • copyrighted materials owned by third parties (including movie dialogue or musical compositions)
      • names, likenesses, voices or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead
      • Entries which contain any commercial content that promotes any product or service other than that of Blue Knot Foundation
      • Entries containing screen credits
    • You represent and warrant that that any images submitted as part of this Competition are free of all royalties and third-party rights (including but not limited to intellectual property rights).
  12. ​Blue Knot Foundation recognises that you, the author of the image, retain ownership of the copyright (including moral rights) in each Entry.
  13. Your privacy is important to us. Blue Knot Foundation will at no time pass on your contact information to any 3rd party, except where required by law or in the event that the member is a competition winner and details are required for direct contact.
  14. You confirm that each person depicted in the Entry has, where necessary, granted permission to be portrayed as shown. Any costumes, props or other materials used must be rented or borrowed with the permission of the owner, and all other relevant permissions must have been obtained.
  15. You agree to fully indemnify Blue Knot Foundation in respect of all royalties, fees and any other monies owing to any person.
  16. All entrants understand that any image submitted to the Competition may be used by Blue Knot Foundation and its affiliates and professional advisors (including advertising and promotional agencies), for its marketing and promotional purposes. You hereby grant Blue Knot Foundation an exclusive, irrevocable licence in each Entry throughout the world in perpetuity in all media for any use connected with Blue Knot Foundation.
  17. You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation.
  18. Blue Knot Foundation reserves the right to require that any prize-winner provides proof of identity, proof of residency, and proof of the date of the photograph as a condition of receipt of a prize. Blue Knot Foundation reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant for submitting an Entry that is not in accordance with these conditions of entry.
